JOURNAL

July 23, 2008

Bonjour mes amis! Hello my friends!

On July 24th, it will be Andrew and my third anniversary of skating together! So, I thought it would be a great time to take a quick reflection. What a whirlwind it has been!! When Andrew and I started skating together, I don't think either of us realized just how fast things would come together. Our first World Championships was amazing, but the second was even better. I am optimistic that our experiences will become grander each year. It seems that two short years ago, we were two kids having fun on the ice. We still are (hehe!), but my, how we have matured! Each adventure we have brings us more wisdom and experience in the skating world, but also in life. I consider myself extremely lucky to be able to live out my dream, travel the world, do things any other nineteen year old doesn't get to do!

We recently made the move from Waterloo, Ontario to the big city of Toronto to skate under Shae-Lynn Bourne. Despite our frequent craving for our moms' home-cooking, we are loving it. We skate every day at the Granite Club, have a work out, and go down to the Harbour Front (by Lake Ontario) for dance class. Our schedule may seem busy to some, but it's a dream for me. Living out your childhood fantasies is quite fulfilling. :)

However, it's not only the training that I've dreamt of. We are thrilled to be able to travel to Beijing and Tokyo (for the second time!) for our Grand Prix assignments this year! To visit Beijing, nevertheless a few short months after the Olympic Games is so exciting!

When we're not training, Andrew and I love to play Cranium these days. It's a great game that challenges your mind and creativity, and is just a blast, especially with a big group! It has become a permanent feature in Andrew's truck, and it's especially handy when  you get bored on long road trips. Speaking of road trips, we've done quite a bit of traveling this summer! We drove down to Connecticut to visit our coach, Mathew, and stayed for about a month. It was a lot of fun to be around more teams. Nothing against Patrick Chan, who we see at the Granite Club though! He's an amazing athlete and artist, and a good friend of ours.

Well, I think this is getting a bit long, but I will be writing journals a little more often now! Just thought I'd give a little update on how things are. Feel free to drop me a line via our website address (it goes straight to us) if you want to chat!

Wishing everyone well,
Kaitlyn
